Covering Up Their Tracks

Under the command of SS Chief Heinrich Himmler, Sobibor was burnt to the ground and covered with asphalt and cement, basically attempting to expunge it from history. They removed the gas chambers and planted pine trees in order to hopefully cover it all up so that the remains of the death camp would never be recovered. But this was not to be its fate, and the remains of Sobibor were actually rediscovered many years later.

Uncovering The Truth

In 2001, many historians, researchers and other crew made it to the site of Sobibor in their attempts to discover the truth behind the horrid activities that went on there. Frustratingly, they weren’t able to uncover much for the first 6 years. But by 2007, Israeli archaeologist Yoram Haimi decided to help in the exploration of Sobibor after he found out that he had two uncles that died there. And what they were going to discover was pretty much the entire reason why the Nazis wanted it to never be found.
