The Local Weatherman Brought The Storm

The exit of Chuck Woolery opened the doors to a weatherman at a local news station named Pat Sajak. However, the network and its then president Fred Silverman didn’t want Sajak as they felt he was too “local” for such a nationwide show. Creator Merv Griffin felt otherwise though as he liked Pat’s sense of humor and fought to have him taken aboard. The network eventually relented and Pat Sajak would then take over the hosting duties, taking the show to new heights.
