Though both hosts seem to appear squeaky clean, both admitted to have hosted the show intoxicated. Sajak said that during the early years of the show, when both were much younger and could tolerate the alcohol, they would down a margarita or two, or six, during Mexican dinners that they had during long dinner breaks. They would get so intoxicated to the point that they had trouble recognizing the letters.
