Contestants Get Coached A Lot

It’s very hard to get selected as a contestant for the show, with over 10,000 people trying out each year, and fewer than 600 getting selected. The chosen ones then spend the whole day of the taping getting coached by a team of coordinators who teach them how and when to buy a vowel, how to properly spin the wheel, where to focus their attention, make them aware of common letter patters and for them not to reuse letters. A fast reflex beats a high IQ and practicing is vital, as well as paying attention to the instructions from the producers such as “just say, A,” and not “I’d like an A, please.”
