7. Loss of Balance and Coordination
Stroke may also cause a loss of balance and coordination, making it difficult for someone suffering from it to stay upright. This is when the damage occurs in the part of the brain responsible for steadiness. If the stroke happens in your brainstem, processing information from your inner ear becomes impaired, causing dizziness. The brain also fails to process information coming from your muscles and joints with regard to their position, causing a patient to misinterpret his surroundings, therefore lose coordination. If you notice a person looking wobbly, it would be best to have him sit or lie down to avoid further injury and assess him for other signs as he may be suffering from a stroke.
