F: Face

Different parts of the brain control different parts of the body. When a person suffers a stroke, supply of blood to parts of the brain are blocked, either by a clot or a dislodged plaque known as embolus. When part of the brain in is cut off from needed nutrients and oxygen, brain cells die, causing an abnormality in a specific part of the body which it controls. In people with stroke, the movement, sensation and muscle tone in the face is diminished, causing it to droop to one side. The person may also have difficulty smiling, have one side of the mouth drop or have an eyelid that falls low. Call for help as soon as you see this sign.
