Leaving Clues And Taunting Police

A few months after Kathryn’s death, someone received a phone call saying that a letter was kept inside one of the books within the Wichita public library. It was in the note that the police would get a bit of insight into whom the killer was. The note, which talked about the Otero deaths, had said, “I did it myself with no one’s help,” and “the code words for ‘em will be… Bind them, torture them, kill them, B.T.K.” Hence, how he received the name the ‘BTK Killer.’

Rader was far from being done with his double life. He would go on to murder Shirley Vian and Nancy Fox, both women whom he strangled to death in their homes using a cord for one and a belt with the other. And while this would feed his sexual needs, he would never actually rape his victims. Instead, he would kill them then masturbate near their bodies, many times leaving portions of his semen behind which would be collected by the police when they would investigate the case. There had been no DNA testing in the 70’s, but this was going to become evidence that would help investigators close the case some 30 years later.
