Although his lawyer originally put in a not guilty plea, on June 27, 2005, that would change to guilty while Rader was said to have spoken of all his murders almost in pure monotone within the court. And when he was finally sentenced on August 18 and the families of his victims spoke, Rader would actually break down, reportedly crying while he listened to what they had to say. He was given 10 life sentences, or no less than 175 years behind bars.

Since there was no death penalty in Kansas at that time, Rader would spend his time in solitary confinement away from anyone else in the jail, also mostly for his own protection. But due to his ‘good behavior’ in jail, he was given other privileges aside from 1 hour outside to exercise, like watching TV, reading magazines or listening to the radio. But the one thing that will remain the same from the day he was put in jail is that he will spend the rest of his days in prison until the day he dies.
