Finally Getting Caught

What Rader couldn’t have known was that the authorities would be able to trace his data digitally. So when he had turned in the floppy disk he had talked about, he didn’t realize that they could trace the places it was used. Not only did they figure out that the owner of the file was a man named Dennis, but it had actually been saved on a computer at the Christ Lutheran Church and the Park City library. In a quick search, police would find his name and track him down, matching his DNA to that of the DNA kept from the BTK Killer’s numerous crimes. Finally, after more than 30 years of outwitting police, Dennis Rader was finally arrested and taken into custody on February 16, 2005.

His Family Finds Out

Upon his arrest, Rader would first deny any allegations against him. But once the police proved that his DNA matched that of the sperm specimens found at the crime scenes, he began to sing like a canary. Supposedly, his confession would be an incredible 30-hours long, admitting, explaining and even boasting about what he had done over the last 30 years. His entire admission would be 92 pages long, and it would include practically every sick detail of all 10 murders. And while police would be sickened by everything he had to share, no one was more dismayed than that of his very own family.
