By the year 1966, when Rader was 21, he chose to join the U.S. Air Force. He spent almost four years in service then eventually returned home to Wichita. The years had passed from childhood into adulthood and yet, his fantasies never faded into the background. In fact, he was trying his hardest to keep them buried deep down inside but they were struggling to be released.
