He Wasn’t A Great Student

During his days in school, Rader was said to be a poor student, receiving mostly C’s while in high school. And although he was able to get into the Wesleyan College in Salina, he ended up dropping out only after being there for one year. He would eventually follow in his father’s footsteps by joining the armed services.

Enlisting In The Air Force

By the year 1966, when Rader was 21, he chose to join the U.S. Air Force. He spent almost four years in service then eventually returned home to Wichita. The years had passed from childhood into adulthood and yet, his fantasies never faded into the background. In fact, he was trying his hardest to keep them buried deep down inside but they were struggling to be released.
