Police Were Puzzled

The authorities were highly puzzled about the BTK Killer. Not only did he call them up, lead them to his victims, write letters and even poems, it would seem that he needed to be in the spotlight as much as he was drawn to kill. He even had a name behind what he would call his need to kill. He named it the ‘Factor X,’ and he likened himself to such serial killers as Jack the Ripper and Ted Bundy, claiming that it was something they all shared.

Factor X

Like many other notorious mass murderers, Dennis Rader had unusual fantasies and illicit dreams from the time that he was a young boy. He would later on explain what he believed ‘Factor X’ was to him. He believed it to be some slightly tangible demon living inside of him which caused him to go out, hunt, torture and kill his victims. Then when he had fed it, he could later on shut it down for awhile so he could go back to his family and be a husband to his wife and father to his children.
