Ways To Treat And Manage ADHD

Neurofeedback

Neurofeedback is a high-tech but very expensive way to manage symptoms and is based on findings that people with the condition have more theta waves and fewer beta waves than those without. During a session, which is brief and painless, the patient wears an electrode-lined cap, and is asked to perform complex cognitive tasks. The goal is to teach the patients how to produce brain-wave patterns that are associated with focus.

It is believed that training the brain to increase the fast beta waves and decrease the slow theta waves can lower ADHD symptoms. Training involves a medical professional watching the brain waves of the patient with ADHD, and letting them know when their brainwaves have reached the right frequency. With enough training and practice, patients can eventually learn how to change these brain waves on their own.
