Antidepressants are sometimes the preferred treatment for children or adults who have ADHD and depression. They work by increasing the levels of neurotransmitters in the brain, like norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine, and may have effects similar to other ADHD medications like stimulants and non-stimulants, though not as effective in improving attention span and concentration. Examples of these drugs are bupropion (Wellbutrin), and venlafaxine (Effexor).

Some of the side effects that may be experienced are stomach ache, constipation, dry mouth, drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, sweating, and difficulty in urinating.
