15. Hideki Tojo


Hideki Tojo was a classic example of a warlord whose hunger for power overshadowed his reputation. He assumed the position Prime Minister of Japan, and remained in office from 1941 to 1944. He forged an alliance with Adolf Hitler, hoping to one day rise to power with the former. He extended his military grasp in Asia. During his reign, he was responsible for the deaths of more than 5 million people. Tojo was arrested for his war crimes in 1945 after Japan surrendered. He was executed by hanging in 1948.
