29. Caligula (Roman Empire)
Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, also called as Caligula, was Roman emperor within the years AD 37–41. He was a member of the Julio-Claudian dynasty, or the house of rulers. Even before his time as ruler, he had already been exposed to senseless violence and ruthlessness. His entire family was massacred by his uncle who was the emperor at the time. When his uncle got sick, Caligula was given permission by the guard to kill him, which he did by choking him mid conversation. When he became emperor, the people loved him so much at first, but because of his excessive lavishness and dissolute behavior, a conspiracy was formed to assassinate him. He, his wife, and their daughter were stabbed to death by officers of the Praetorian Guard led by Cassius Chaerea in 41 AD.
