Wanting To Know What Happened

Everyone wanted to know what had led Alyssa to do something so cruel and horrifying. And for Cole County Sheriff Greg White, he had to make a statement explaining to the people why they couldn’t give more details about what exactly happened. He explained, “I know that it would be cathartic for the public to know exactly what happened, but the difficulty with that is, we have to maintain a prosecutable case. We’re not going to contaminate jury pools or anything else.”

At Her Hearing

Considering the fact that Alyssa was a minor, the fact that the murder was considered by most, pre-meditated, many wanted to know if she would be tried as an adult for first–degree murder. But due to the fact that ‘Missouri is one of 22 states using a “dual jurisdiction” system,’ a minor found guilty is allowed to be held in prison until she reaches ‘maturity,’ after which she can be given an actual trial. This is all to determine whether the minor has been rehabilitated once she’s reached that point too. But due to the intensity of this particular crime, many didn’t believe Alyssa was due this chance.
