Overcoming Hurdles
The university’s dean often gives letter of recommendations for incoming interns. He had to write one for Swango as well, but the letter’s contents state that he wasn’t recommended. Despite this hurdle, the doctor got a surgical internship at Ohio State University Medical Center (OSU) in 1983. This was soon followed by a residency in neurosurgery.
