But they did not have to go through all that trouble. Not willing to put his victims’ families through the pain of testifying, Mason confessed his crimes but, strangely enough, could not provide a clear motive for his crimes, claiming instead that it ran contrary to everything he believed in as a human being. He was emotional about what he had done, and asked for forgiveness from the victims’ families- but it was going to take much more than a mere apology to make amends.
