Mason’s arrest has brought relief and a sense of vindication to so many. And the families of the dead officers could not be more grateful. As Jean Curtis Moore is wont to say “I’m not his victim anymore. My son is not his victim anymore…It’s worth the wait.” Carolyn Phillips Steward, one of Officer Phillips’s daughters, said she heard police officers promising her mother that the killer would be found, no matter how long it took. They made good on their promise, and the case’s investigators feel that they too have become family to the families of Officer Curtis and Officer Philipps. Now, hopefully, with justice being served and Mason having died, everyone that Mason has ever victimized will be able to put the nightmare of El Segundo behind them-looking forward to better things ahead.
