They compared the thumbprint to all the others on their database by hand and this took hundreds of hours, but nothing turned up. Since the killer had been described as having a Southern accent, an investigator went to nearby army bases taking fingerprints for a week, and still nothing. He was wondering if the case would ever get solved, but then someone chanced upon yet another very important lead.
