Todd Kohlhepp had told police that if they allowed him to tell his mom himself about what he had done, he would confess everything, which he did. So on May 29, 2017, during his sentencing, Judge Cole asked Todd how he would plead to the charges held against him, to which he replied, “Guilty, sir.” He admitted to killing all seven of his victims, plus the kidnapping and rape charges of Kala Brown, his lone survivor. Although the families of the victims were hoping for the death penalty, he received a sentencing of seven consecutive life sentences plus 60 years.

When authorities allowed Todd to speak to his mom about his crimes, she shared that Todd told her, “I’m sorry mom,” admitting to her all his crimes. Regina said, “I want to say something to the people that have been hurt. I want the world to know that he’s not a bad person. He’s a good person.” And when asked about whether she was questioning herself as a parent, Regina went on to say, “Every day of my life. I don’t know how it could have been changed, I took him everywhere I knew to take him… my heart absolutely goes out to those people and I feel such shame, I feel so ashamed that my son hurt them.” And although she still claims that, “Todd is not a monster,” we doubt that there is a single soul out there that will agree with her.
