Ideally, a nation’s leader places his fellow countrymen’s interests ahead of his. But when he starts to squander the power vested in him – or which he obtained by force – and starts to head the state with a leadership style that has disadvantages that far outweigh the advantages, his constituents will usually start to plot to overthrow him. And when they do, he will make sure to do everything in his power to quell the “rebellion,” which usually ends up with tens of thousands to millions of lives lost.
