Sensing that authorities were not buying her story, Pam tried to take her own life by slitting her wrist with a ballpoint pen while in custody.
A complete stranger
Pam claimed that she didn’t know Gumpenberger and that he was an intruder. She told police that he was a complete stranger who suddenly threatened her at an encounter on her driveway. Authorities could not also establish a previous link between Pam and Gumpenberger. However, they were able to trace one of Pam’s calls from an apartment complex where Gumpenberger lived.
