Joining The Navy
Although Jack had originally wished to pursue the beginning of his career by serving in the Military, he had back issues and ended up in the US Navy. While he was there, he received a medal of bravery, the prestigious Purple Heart, for courageously saving a number of men after their ship had been damaged after being hit by a Japanese warship.
