In 1960, John Fitzgerald Kennedy would beat Republican candidate Richard Nixon, who was the acting Vice President at the time, to become the 35th President of the United States. It would seem that Kennedy’s charm, ease in front of a crowd, and his all around democratic views and confidence were enough to get him seated as the man behind the most powerful nation in the world. He was sworn in on November 8, 1960, not only being the second youngest man to ever be the leader of the free world, but the first Roman Catholic one at that.
