In 1953, while Jack was in Congress, he had met Jacqueline Bouvier, otherwise known as Jackie, while attending a dinner party. She was a beautiful socialite from another wealthy family, whose family had already promised her hand to another man in marriage, a stockbroker named John Husted. But after a mere 3 months, her engagement to Husted was soon broken off and she and Jack began dating. It was said that Jackie’s own mother much preferred JFK, not only because of his background, but because he was a much wealthier man than her original fiancé.
