David and his wife, Barzee, were known to be devout Mormons as well, just like the Smart family. In fact, his wife even played the organ in church. But apparently, not everything was coming up roses. According to Barzee, her first year of marriage to Mitchell was “extremely rough.” In order to make things work, “she tried to make her second year better by being more submissive and not arguing with Mitchell as much.” But things just went downhill from there.
