When she was kidnapped, Elizabeth was forced to hike four miles into the foothills to the makeshift campsite that Mitchell and wife Barzee were living in. As soon as they arrived, a strange, “wedding ritual” was conducted with the fake ceremony ending with “the new and everlasting covenant,” which in Mormon terms is used for polygamous marriage. Elizabeth was then forced to remove her clothing and that is when Mitchell raped the then 14-year-old girl.
