The mutilation of Pamela Werner
19-year-old Pamela Werner was the daughter of British China scholar E.T.C. Pamela went on ice skating one night and was found dead near the Fox Tower in Beijing on January 8, 1937. She suffered from several blows to the head, and her body was badly mutilated. Her internal organs including her heart were removed with surgical precision. She was also found out to have been raped. The Japanese occupation of the city a few months later halted the investigations into the case. But when E.T.C. Werner funded an unofficial investigation, an American dentist was implicated for the murder. The evidences, however, proved insufficient. The case remains a mystery to this day.
