Don’t Exaggerate When Giving Compliments
The Dutch hate exaggeration so when you are complimenting someone, don’t overdo it by exaggerating and using hyperbole. As an example, just say “You look nice” instead of saying, “Oh my, you look sooo nice” or other words to that effect. Compliments should not be taken comfortably and to spontaneously compliment a Dutch will likely throw them off or surprise them in a way you didn’t intend.
