Never Turn Down A Handshake
While other countries have gestures like embracing, bowing, or kissing as a form of greeting, the traditional way in the Netherlands is a handshake. A firm handshake, like the one done in most Western countries. It applies to everyone, men and women, old and young, and definitely regardless of social status, wealth, or profession. When meeting someone for the first time, it’s expected and should you refuse, it best be for some acceptable reason that you can explain satisfactorily.
