Don’t Call Strangers By Their First Name
There are a few ways to address someone when you meet them for the first time, and their first name is not one of them. Depending on the context of your meeting, if he or she is a business associate, the usual way to address them is by using ‘Sie.’ If it’s an acquaintance or if you’re meeting someone at a dinner party, then sometimes saying their name with ‘du’ is okay. Just make sure to follow protocol and remember, it’s not impolite to ask someone how they would prefer to be addressed.
