Whereas people around the world have gotten used to greeting others ahead of their actual birthdays, in Germany, this is considered incredibly bad luck. You might think it strange that a country that’s so practical would even consider believing in something so superstitious, but to them it doesn’t make sense to greet if the occasion hasn’t happened yet. And the same goes for weddings, graduations or other important life events.
