14. Hepatitis C

Hepatitis C is an infection of the liver caused by the hepatitis C virus which is carried in the blood of an infected person. It is transmitted mainly through blood via blood transfusion, unsafe injection practices, and drug use (sharing of needles). This is an acute (sudden) or chronic (lifelong) type of inflammation that often shows no symptoms but can show acute signs similar to Hepatitis A and B symptoms.

Treatment for Hepatitis C is limited since most patients with the disease often recover without the need for treatment. One good thing about this infection is that it runs no risk of causing liver damage in people who have had it for a while.
