25. Pyelonephritis
Pyelonephritis refers to the swelling of the kidneys which starts in the urinary tract primarily due to infection. Depending on its severity, I may affect one or both kidneys and is often associated with fever, chills, flank pain, lower abdominal pain, and groin pain. Nausea and vomiting may also be experienced together with the increased need to urinate.
Since it is caused by an overgrowth of bacteria in the urinary tract, antibiotics are given as treatment in addition to pain relievers that help lessen the discomfort experienced by patients.
