Flying To Japan

Thankfully, Rocky didn’t end up dying in that paddy. Instead, he would be flown to Japan where he had to go through extensive surgery to remove hundreds of pieces of shrapnel that had gotten stuck in his foot from the blast. Unbelievably, the doctors were able to save his foot, but sadly, they told him that he would never be able to play football ever again.

Getting A Postcard

During his recovery, Rocky shared how he had gotten a postcard from the owner of his former team, Art Rooney. The card had read, ‘Rock – Team’s not doing well. We need you. – Art Rooney.’ Rocky even shared, “When you have somebody take the time and interest to send you a postcard, you have a special place for those kind of people.” And Rocky was more determined than ever to get back on the field again, no matter what the doctors may have told him.
