The Initial Descent
When Rob didn’t show after hours of waiting, Beck finally decided to head down with other hikers since it was close to 6 p.m. and he couldn’t wait any longer. Along with climbers from another group, Beck had been ‘short-roped’ to Mike Groom, one of the other guides with them. They were almost at their first stop on their way down to Camp Four, but the cold air was more telling than they originally thought, and they were going to get hit by a blizzard.
