Almost Rescued
It would be one long journey back to health if he ever made it off the mountain. By the time they had reached Camp One, which was another 2,000 feet down, it was said that a helicopter had arrived to rescue him. They overheard on the radio, “The helicopter is here for Weathers. One climber only.” But then Beck knew there was another climber whose feet had been completely damaged in the storm named Makalu Gau. Beck did the unbelievable and gave his rescue up for Gau. He thought that was probably the end for him.
