Getting The Truth Out
At just 16-years of age, Helmuth decided, alongside his two best friends, Rudolf Wobb and Karl-Hinz Schnibbe, and another friend Gerhard Düwer, that they needed to get word out to the people of what was really happening around them. The trio wrote a few essays, which they named “Hitler the Murderer” and “Do You Know That They Are Lying To You?” distributing them around Hamburg.
Putting Them Up All Around Town
Aside from finding a way to get the essays distributed, they also pinned up some on bulletin boards, stuffed them into people’s mailboxes, even managing to get them into people’s coat pockets. But sooner than later, they were found out and arrested for treason. Helmuth was beheaded while his friends were put in jail, but their legacy lives on forever in books, movies and even a youth center in Helmuth’s honor.
