Getting Out
Eventually, Irene managed to escape alongside many of the other Jews that she was helping and made it to a Displaced Persons camp. Here she met her future husband, William Opdyke, and she migrated with him to the United States and lived to tell her tale of how she managed to survive the Holocaust. She along with many of the other unsung heroes of the world’s worst case of world war and genocide will forever be immortalized in the hearts and minds of many.
