Number 4: Stefania Podgorska
Although not actually of Jewish heritage, Stefania Podgorska was actually a Catholic girl born in a small village near Przemysl in Poland. 1 of 8 children, Stefania helped her parents on the farm, until the time that her father sadly passed, and she went to live with a Jewish family known as the Diamant Family.
Forced Into The Ghettos
Not too long after, the Diamants were forced to go into the ghettos like most of the Jewish families, but since Stefania was not Jewish, she wasn’t coerced herself. The family asked her to remain in their home to keep it safe, all the while helping sneak food into the ghetto for the family. Mrs. Diamant and her son Max were eventually forced to go to Auschwitz, the most notable of all concentration camps during the Nazi administration. Thankfully, Max managed to escape the train to the camp and headed straight to Stefania to plead for safety.
