Dodging The Hitler Youth

It was also during this time that Hitler was forming Youth programs for the children, known as Hitler Youth. They were created to brainwash the younger generation so that it would be easier to get them to follow his doctrines as they got older. But the Edelweiss Pirates knew that this was not something that they wanted for their lives, having already seen a number of their parents and other elders lose their lives because of their own political views.

Going To Concentration Camp

Julich and his comrades tried to do what they could to slow down the Nazis, like put up anti-Nazi graffiti, filling Nazi vehicle gas tanks with tons of sugar, and even attempting to plot out an attack on the Cologne Gestapo headquarters. At only 15 years of age, Julich and his other ‘pirate’ members were caught and shipped off to a concentration camp where they suffered under the hands of the army, until some of them were even executed for their deeds against Nazi Germany.
