Otherwise known as the Gulf War, Operation Desert Storm began on January 17, 1991, after Iraqi forces refused to leave Kuwait. With a war possibly about to break out, the United States sent over 500,000 troops to help make sure Saddam Hussein didn’t take over the countries that supplied more than half the world’s oil supply. And although the war only lasted 45 days, the entire cost was over $60 billion in total.

August 31, 1997 was a day that would go down in history as one of the saddest tragedies witnessed worldwide. Diana, Princess of Wales, along with her boyfriend Dodi Fayed, heir to the Harrod’s empire in London, died together in a car crash. They were supposedly trying to get away from a mass of paparazzi that wouldn’t leave them alone. The world mourned the woman who was known to all as ‘The People’s Princess’ in a funeral attended by millions. And the world would bid their beloved princess goodbye in one of the most heartfelt and sorrowful ceremonies of all time.
