Considered as one of the worst, and definitely the longest, of all economic shutdowns, ‘The Great Depression’ lasted for 10 years, beginning in 1929 and ending in 1939. In spite of the depression beginning in the United States, due to the country’s lack of productivity, it would cause problems worldwide. Thousands were jobless, lacked food and were left hungry and homeless. Although recovery began sometime in 1933, it was said that full economic restoration didn’t truly happen until 1939.

Hitler Becomes German Chancellor

On January 30, 1933, Adolf Hitler would rise to power to become the German Chancellor. With his position as leader of the National Socialist German Workers Party, he would use his power to grow Nazi Germany. This would later allow him to become the Supreme Leader of Nazi Germany, giving him the capacity to kill over 6 million Jews in the worst case of genocide the world had ever seen.
