First Nuclear Submarine

With the world in what would seem like continuous turmoil and warfare, the United States decided to launch the world’s first nuclear-powered submarine called the USS Nautilus on January 21, 1954. Not only did it allow the U.S. Navy major ‘range and operational flexibility,’ the massive underwater craft was able to remain submerged far longer than any other vessel of its kind. From that time on, it became the submarine that all other nuclear submarines were pitted against, allowing them to make improvements dependent on her progress. She was finally put to rest on March 3, 1980 and now sits in a museum on display for all to see.

The Vietnam War

Known to be one of the longest wars in history, the Vietnam War lasted from November 1, 1955 all the way until April 30, 1975, marking an almost 2 decade long conflict. And while it was actually a war between communist North Vietnam and South Vietnam, the United States Army played a massive part in the war despite it not even being their own fight, and it was known to have divided a nation, killing over 3 million people of which 58,000 were Americans. And even worse, it has been said that more than 500,000 soldiers who served during the Vietnam War sadly suffered not only from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, but many got involved in major drug use and alcohol abuse, causing an increase in divorce and suicide when they got back from ‘Nam.’
