In the early 1900’s the most popular mode of travel for long distant trips that would span countries and continents was via ship. The Titanic was the biggest passenger cruise liner at that time, and this was going to be its maiden voyage. The ship had over 2,000 passengers, crew included, and yet it wasn’t at it’s full capacity. Despite the icy waters and the warning of icebergs below the freezing waters, the ship would continue its course to New York City. On the 4th day out at sea, it would hit an iceberg on the evening of April 14, 1912 and take two hours and forty minutes to completely sink, killing over 1,500 people in total. It was considered the worst maritime disaster in world history.

World War I began on July 28, 1914 after the assassination of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand, along with his pregnant wife, Sophie. Also known as ‘The Great War,’ ‘The War of the Nations’ and ‘The War to End All Wars,’ it lasted for 4 years, 3 months and 14 days, killing an incredible number of 8 million soldiers. It was only when the Treaty of Versailles was signed that the war was considered officially over. But despite it being the war to end all wars, this was truly only the beginning of many other wars that would come after it.
