George Takei

Best known for his role as the beloved Mr. Sulu from the 70s sci-fi show Star Trek, George Takei has been in the spotlight since then. But it wasn’t until 2005, more than 3 decades later, when he first came out openly as a gay man. He explained his past in an interview as, “I’d take a female friend to premieres. Then go out to a gay bar.” But since finally coming out, he has become an activist, spokesperson and major influence for the LGBTQ community.
