Wilson Cruz

Wilson Cruz played the beloved gay character of Ricky Vasquez in 90s teen drama, ‘My So-Called Life.’ He attributes the role to saving his relationship with his family since the show’s events were like his very own. Cruz explains, “When I came out, it didn’t go well. My dad kicked me out. I ended up sleeping in my car,” which is what happened to his character on the show as well. Cruz continues, “My dad had been secretly watching the show. After the episode where Ricky gets kicked out for being gay, he called me and said maybe it was time for a talk. He’s now an incredibly important ally in my life. He’s my hero, because he put love and family first.”
