…The American Girl Doll Company has no problem selling their dolls at a starting price of around $95 a piece. And lucky for them, parents are actually gullible enough to buy them, especially since they can even purchase matching outfits for both daughter and doll. The company also prides itself in the fact that it carries a wide range of ethnicities, backgrounds and interests per doll. But when the company released Gwen Thompson, the ‘Homeless Girl,’ there was a huge stink about it, outraging parents everywhere. While the toy manufacturer defended itself in saying that it was to promote tolerance and understanding of families that have gone homeless, parents just couldn’t let it go.

Playmobil, a German toy company, has been one America’s leading toy providers since the early 1970s when it first made it’s debut. People just couldn’t get enough of the tiny people and the kind of ‘real’ toy sets that they came up with like the Playground Set, Rescue Ambulance Set and School Bus Set, just to name a few. But when it came out with the Security Check Point set, parents weren’t too sure how they felt about it. Playmobil prides itself in creating true-to-life scenarios for kids to ‘familiarize the child with the realities of life through play,’ but it would seem that this particular set was just a tad too real for most.
