The area where the City of Inkster in Wayne County, Michigan now stands was formerly inhabited Native Americans until it was taken-over by outside settlers in 1825. Since then, Inkster steadily grew, with the influx of African-American workers from Henry Ford’s automobile factories adding to the population during the 1920s and 1930s.

Today however, urban problems, such as increasing unemployment, low income, and poverty, plague the city of Inkster, giving rise to more incidents of violent crime in the area, recorded at 1,455 incidents per 100,000 residents.
